A Republican and a Democrat stand on the same side of the fence in the activity of taking actions toward saving the next generations of children from diabetes and obesity.

Filled with guilt because she had lectured her Bishop about giving a child a sugar treat, Carol fell into the store, "Bears, Buddies & Toys" in Laguna Niguel, CA to see if they sold a little box of toys that was appropriate for Carol to give to her Bishop so he could choose to give a toy, instead of the sugar treat, if he wanted to acknowledge a child.

The owner, Lisa, even though she was a Republican and knew Carol was a Democrat, provided the information to Carol, where she could order small toys, wholesale, that would be suitable for the Bishop to give to the children.

Michelle Obama's, "Let's Move" project was part of the incentive Carol had in her quest to save the children from diabetes and obesity. Carol's Grandson was just diagnosed with diabetes and Adriel and Alisha have three children under the age of five. Carol, having a RHIT Certificate in Medical Records has seen that the medical records of a diabetic patient can be 6 to 12 inches high; and she does not want to see her Great-Grandchildren face inheriting that disease.

THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING AN ACTION THAT WOULD EMPOWER A MINISTER, TEACHER, THERAPIST OR ANY OTHER PERSON ATTEMPTING TO REWARD A CHILD FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR THE CHOICE TO GIVE A SMALL TOY INSTEAD OF THE USUAL SUGAR TREAT OVERCAME ANY DIFFERENCES THAT CAROL AND LISA HAD, POLITICALLY.

When the Bishop said to the child, "If you reach way down in this box of Tootsie Rolls, you can keep all that you can hold on to", he did not realize the
seed of love coated with the taste of sugar
would be planted in this child's heart. It would be planted deep because he represented the loving arms of the church.

Both Carol and Lisa knew that planting the seed of Love coated with sugar deep inside a child might lead to diabetes or obesity in the life of a child!

Love of children's health is a purpose that is stronger than the fear of the change.
Giving the child a little toy instead of a sugar treat to catch his attention is not a habit that is easy to create. Many of us for generations have been given hot fudge, peanut butter cookies, tootsie rolls, M&M candy, homemade cookies and candy to show us love. We can now ask ourselves is it necessary to give sugar to express our love for a child - if that sugar may lead to obesity and diabetes? Each person can bring this question to the threshold of his own consciousness and decide. Did the consumption of sugar help my Mom, help my dad, help my cousins, brothers, sisters. Are we willing to for a new habit of giving a small toy, a plant, a flower, a poem, a card, a hand-written letter, a hug, a touch, a sticker instead of a sugar treat to that child we love? Because Carol could not find a small box of toys at Costco, or any other on-line store, to replace the Tootsie Roll Treats that her pastor gave out to children,
she created "Spark Of Life Treats", a box of toys that are very popular with children,
because they are similar to toys that children receive when playing games at Chucky Cheese Pizza, etc.

Teachers find the little toys are a great incentive for a child to accomplish tasks he is given. Good behavior is automatic when the child remembers he might get a treat for that good behavior.

The teacher can know she has integrity, because she is not creating an addiction to sugar that will spring up in the form of diabetes or obesity in a child's later life.

Sue Dearing who lives here in Laguna Woods received a box of treats to give to her minister. Sue is pleased to see one of her fellow residents create a new solution to an old problem. Sue knows that many of us here in Laguna Woods have diabetes in our history and finds it exciting to take an action that hopes to break that chain of familial disease.

Carol also wants to teach the children to love vegetable plants, which would lead to exciting the children to eat vegetables and ultimately to be more healthy and have no need to fear getting diabetes or obesity.

Since many children live in apartments, you can stop at 66D Calle Aragon, Laguna Woods, to see zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes and strawberries growing out of a Topsy-Turvy Garden basket and in pots, which can be moved into the sun and moved off of the grass when it is mowing day. A pot or a Topsy-Turvy garden can be placed in any apartment. There is never a vegetable that tastes as good as one that you have watered every day to grow.

Many of the residents have vegetable plants in Laguna Woods. They have gardens in the "Garden Area" or in Topsy-Turvy Gardens. Anyone is welcome to stop by and see Grandma Carol's Garden.

Anyone can purchase the "Spark Of Life Treats" for $10.00 by leaving a phone number on the message service at 949-306-6533
